Stop Biting!!!…Will The “Real” Apple Store Kid Please Stand Up!!!
Back in the 50’s, before civil rights had reached America,it was a typical business practice for the record labels to re-record hit records popularized in the African-American audience by Black artist, with a white, conservative singer,to make the record safe for the white audience.(Race Records-PBS)
Pat Boone and Elvis Presley recorded sanitized cover versions of Little Richard’s hit single “Tutti Fruiti” for the white audience, and his “Tutti Frutti” single outsold the source record and “outdid Richard’s on the hit parade”.(Source)
“Biter”Pat Boone also released a version of “Long Tall Sally” for the white audience, and the label pushed his cover versions and masqueraded as if Boone was the originator of the African-American Little Richard penned hits.(Source)
This was during the time when ‘Race Music’ was only marketed and sold to black people, because society was still embroiled in the practice of total segregation, and the Jim Crow laws prohibited black artist from being played on the radio, or performing in front of a white audience.(Source)
The labels felt the need to cover the black artist with a white performer so they could market a black hit song to the white teens, who assumed the white artist was the original author of the music, which created legions of fans for artist such as Elvis Presley, and Pat Boone.(Source)
Eventually, white Americans gradually began to purchase such records as well, and as civil rights began to take hold in our society, the black artist were able to perform their own music for all races of people in the USA,including white America.
It has always been a belief in the entertainment industry that when a white artist that steals a black artist act,the white artist will become 10 times more successful than the black artist who originated the performance, and many times the white performer will misrepresent himself to be the sole creator of the stolen act.(Source)
In the summer of 2009,Harlem teenager Nicholi White became a YouTube internet sensation by creating and posting his lip-synching and dance videos of himself, that he would record at the 5th Avenue Apple Store in New York city.(Nicholifavs YouTube channel)
The reason he had to use the equipment at the Apple Store was because although Nicholi had a computer, but no camera.
He thought to himself that he could go to the Apple store, because they have a webcam and he could make YouTube videos,Nicholi reported, which is exactly what he boldly did, and posted several of the videos on the popular video sharing site.(Source)
His videos got a lot of attention almost immediately, many getting well over 100,000 views on average, and after one of his videos was featured on “Good Morning America” the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres came calling for him!(Source)
His audience gave him the title of the “Apple Store Kid”, which Nicholi adopted and accepted as his stage name, and that is how many find him on the search engines.(NY Post)
Now,there is another young man in California who, in the tradition of Pat Boone and Elvis Presley and sanitized ‘race-music’ has stolen not only Nicholi’s act and overall concept, but is fronting and promoting himself as…”The Apple Store Kid”?!?!(Source)
In the clips Trevor dances around the store while bemused customers and staff look on. Most of the time he gets away with it, but occasionally the Apple police shut him down mid-move…(Source)
…JUST LIKE NICHOLI’S ACT!!!!
I know an idea, or a dance move is not protectable, but where is the honor and integrity here?
Trevor seems to want to misrepresent himself as some sort of creative genius by presenting to the public that he in fact is the originator of Nicholi’s act, and that he is in fact the “Apple Store Kid”…which is a not the case.
I hope that the public does not sweep Nicholi’s brilliance under the rug, in favor of a more”palatable” and “safe’ sanitized “Apple Store Kid” Trevor, so that he can get his just due.(Source)
Creativity and originality is a gift, one in which everyone wishes they had, but do not.Do not be fooled by the new Pat Boone fake Apple Store Kid Trevor, and if you want to see true originality, and the source of Trevor’s plagiarized act,
…make sure you follow and support the original Apple Store Kid, Nicholi White!!!
