Another Dictator Bites The Dust…Forces Arrest Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo

Ivory Coast’s Laurent Gbagbo and his wife Simone are in the custody of Alassane Ouattara at the Golf Hotel in Abidjan and have requested U.N. protection, the U.N. peacekeeping chief said on Monday.(Source)
Mr Gbagbo surrendered after a military assault on his residence in Abidjan.He had provoked a crisis by refusing to cede power, insisting he had won November’s presidential election.(BBC)
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a fighter with Ouattara’s Republican Forces (FRCI) said today of Gbagbo’s dramatic capture at the presidential residence in Abidjan “…DON’T kill me!” were the first words that Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo shouted when forces loyal to his rival Alassane Ouattara captured him, the witness says.(CNN)
In his first speech since Laurent Gbagbo’s capture on Monday, Ivory Coast’s internationally recognised president Alassane Ouattara vowed to bring the fallen leader to justice and to launch an inquiry into crimes committed during the conflict.(MSNBC PhotoBlog)
After saying his country was “at the dawn of a new era of hope,” Ouattara said he wanted to create a truth and reconciliation commission to shed light on charges of violations of human rights.(Source)
He also announced the launch of “legal proceedings against Laurent Gbagbo, his wife and his allies”, while adding that “all measures are being taken” to protect them.
…How much do you want to bet that these two come up killed?Does not sound like a long-term deal for them, by the tone of this statement…
