Tsunami Dog Rescued 3 Weeks After Japan Earthquake and Tsunami…Owners No Where To Be Found

3 weeks after the March 11 earthquake and tsunami,a lone dog was rescued at sea off the coast of Kesennuma, Japan, on Friday after being found drifting on a roof surrounded by debris,according to the Japan Coast Guard.(Huffpo)
The Tsunami dog, as it has been dubbed,was spotted by helicopter at around 4 p.m. by a special rescue unit from the 3rd Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, operating out of Yokohama.(Source)
It took several hours to catch the dog and get him on a coast guard boat.(Video)
Several attempts to rescue the dog using a helicopter failed,as the frightened dog retreated under the roof upon becoming frightened by the rescuers descending from the helicopter.(Source)
After the helicopter rescue attempts failed, three crew members approached the dog on a boat and got it aboard, after sensing that the rescuers were friends and not foes.
It is not known what the fate of the dog’s owners is or how it managed to survive its 3-week ordeal, but the coast guard hopes the dog will lead them to its owners, and help solve the mystery of the Tsunami dog.(USA Today)

After being rescued, officers say the dog ate a meal of sausage and biscuits, and they report that the dog appeared to be in good health and had no major injuries.
The National Police Agency said that the death toll for the March 11 earthquake and tsunami has risen to 11,800, while 15,540 people were still unaccounted for by this Saturday.(NY Post)
