Bice had traveled to Madrid to study at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid for the semester, studying International business there, as that was his major in college.(CBS)
Bice had only been in Madrid for a month and a half, and was not yet fully acquainted with the area, but the confident student was physically fit, tall, and a strapping six-foot-four.His father reported to the media that he had recently climbed Mt. Whitney with Austin in tow.(The Daily Aztec)
Austin Bice was last seen alive outside Riviera concert venue and discotheque in the early hours of Feb. 26.,after having been allegedly denied entrance into the club because he was too drunk, which friends and family have denied.(Source)
Witness and friend Maria Garcia said Bice and some of his friends had been drinking at an apartment before going out to the club.
When they arrived at the club, a doorman there suggested he rest a while before going in because he looked intoxicated and unsteady.
A friend stayed outside with him until Bice said he was going to walk home, against the suggestions of his friends.(Source)
“He had left his credit cards and passport in his room, and had not taken a winter coat, so we’re concerned because it was very cold that night,” said Garcia.
He never made it home, and was never seen alive again.
Bice’s father, Larry Bice, was in Madrid on Saturday leading a search by hundreds of volunteers for his son, after police and later friends had carefully combed the area around the club and found no trace of Bice.(CNN)
Last night , after 10 days of Austin having gone missing, his body was pulled out of the shallow, slow-moving Manzanares River, which runs through the western portion of the city.(Source)
Austin Bice’s body was found in a spot not far from the nightclub where he was last seen.(Source)
The body was found after a roughly 50- yard section of the river, which contains several locks, was drained as part of the search, police said.
An autopsy will be performed either today or Wednesday to determine an official cause of death, but as it stands, there is no sign of foul play.(Source)
It is quite possible that if Austin was tipsy, or had become suddenly ill,he could have experienced some dizziness, and coupled with the fact that he was unfamiliar with the area,he could have accidentally fell in the river, but that has not been determined yet as the official cause of death.
RIP Austin, from Spain 😦
