Jets’ Assistant Coach Sal Alosi Trips-up Miami Dolphins DB Nolan Carroll from The Sidelines, While He Was Covering A Punt!!!WTF???(VIDEO)
The New York Jets strength and conditioning assistant coach Sal Alosi lost his cool and composure today in their loss today to the Miami Dolphins, final score 10-6, by channeling the legendary and controversial Ohio Buckeye’s former coach Woody Hayes.(NY Daily-News)
During a punt return during the game, Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll was tripped intentionally by the New York Jets’ strength and conditioning coach on the sideline while covering the punt in the third quarter of Miami’s 10-6 victory Sunday!!!(Source)
Carroll laid injured on the turf for a few minutes, but eventually, after slowly getting off the turf, limped back to his sideline and eventually returned to the game.(USA Today)
…that was pretty salty, but not unprecedented in televised football. At the 1978 college Gator bowl, coach Woody Hayes attacked an opposing player who ran out-of-bounds onto the opposing teams sideline.
Coach Woody Hayes lost his temper when Clemson nose guard Charlie Bauman intercepted a pass thrown by the OSU quarterback, and ran it out-of-bounds into the Ohio State players standing on the sidelines. He fell down at the end of his interception run, stood up and looked at the OSU players.(Video)
When he did that…Woody Hayes punched him in the throat, starting a bench-clearing brawl. Hayes then stormed onto the field and abused the referee. When one of Hayes’ own players, offensive lineman Ken Fritz, tried to intervene, Hayes turned on him and had to be restrained by defensive coordinator George Hill.(WIKI)
The morning after the 17-15 defeat, Hayes was fired. He never coached again. He also never apologized to Bauman for hitting him.(ESPN classics)
The only thing that this Jets assistant coach did differently than Woody Hayes in this similar incident, Sal Alosi admitted to tripping cornerback/kick returner Nolan Carroll,he manned up and apologized for his “inexcusable and unsportsmanlike” conduct in Sunday’s loss.(NFL.Fanhouse)
Alosi released this statement after the Jet’s organization officially apologized for his assault…
“I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment. My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for. I spoke to Coach Sparano and Nolan Carroll to apologize before they took off. I have also apologized to Woody Johnson, Mike Tannebaum and Rex Ryan.
I accept responsibility for my actions as well as any punishment that follows.”(NY Jets)
That was nice of him, but it might not be enough to appease the Miami Dolphins, where some in the organization are calling for him to be fired! Nolan Carroll said he was not angry about the incident. But his teammates were fired up.
Here is a video of an interview Karlos and Nolan gave commenting on the incident.(Video)
He may have more trouble on his hands than he ever could have imagined, because Nolan Carroll’s mother just so happens to be Florida politician Jennifer Carroll, the lieutenant governor-elect for the state, and she will take office as Lieutenant Governor on January 4, 2011 alongside Rick Scott, the Governor-elect.
She is the first black and the second woman ever elected to the position in Florida’s history.(WIKI)
Jennifer Carroll is a highly connected Republican party leader, who is well-connected to the national GOP, and you know how the Republicans like to protect their own, like they protect their tax breaks only for the super-rich!!!…and she is a mother.
I bet she took offense to the New York coach attacking her son, in her own state!!!
Remember how Florida decided the presidential election in 2004, thanks to the power of the Republican Governor?!?….and they will have the utmost importance in the next presidential election, so her power and influence is tremendous…
Sal Alosi better avoid going back down to Florida for a while….and watch his back!!!
What do you think, should Alosi be fired, or simply suspended and/or fined?!?!…is this behavior ever forgivable?
