As a much humbled Christina stated while graciously accepting the honor,…”for a little girl from Pittsburgh, this is a dream come true!!!…

The honor came on the same day that her new movie “Burlesque” was given the red carpet treatment, and premiered to the lucky audience members, friends and family, that were able to gain entrance, and view Christina Aguilera starring on the big screen alongside the incomparable Cher.(Perez Hilton)

Many fans around the world who could not be in attendance on Hollywood Boulevard were able to view a live stream of the red carpet arrivals broadcast on You tube, which was fabulous, but ultimately, most of the public will have to wait until November 24,to see Christina’s starring turn in this movie.

I had the pleasure of being invited to a press screening last week, and I am delighted to inform you that if you like music, singing, dancing,…and if you are a Christina fan, then you will not be the least bit disappointed!!!

Christina delivers a tremendously charismatic performance and leads a good-looking, charmingly talented ensemble of actors, including Cher,in this rags to riches story of one tough farm girls unrelenting fight for fame, clawing her way up the ladder in the feisty and  competitive world of Hollywood.

…I know that was a mouthful, but after seeing this movie, my jaws dropped and it’s been hard to shut me up about how entertaining this movie”Burlesque” is.

The story follows Christina Aguilera’s character Ali Marilyn Rose,( the name acknowledges Marilyn Monroe, as well as famous burlesque fan dancer Gypsy Rose Lee) who escapes her contrite life as an underpaid/unpaid waitress at a coffee shop in the farmlands of Iowa, as she “collects’ some money owed to her,out of the coffee shop cash register, and boards a Greyhound bus headed straight to Hollywood, where she plans on seeking her opportunity and shot to show off her talents to the world.

Ali has a shot, because she possesses a unique pair of “mutant lungs” that could bring down the house anywhere, if she only could be heard by the right people.

Upon arriving to Hollywood, Ali/Christina rents a room in a ramshackle flop hotel, that is low rent, dirty, unseemly, but fits in to her tight budget she has for this adventure of a lifetime.

The historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood is actually very upscale and decent!

The historic Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood is actually very upscale and decent!

That hotel is the Roosevelt Hotel, which is a bit confusing to those of us familiar with Hollywood, because the Roosevelt hotel has not been run down for many years now….in fact, it’s actually a very nice hotel, definitely not inexpensive, and currently is a place for Hollywood hipsters, and starlets, and is a hotel that I highly recommend…

…but in this movie, we will just go with it.

Ali picks up a trade magazine, and sets out on several auditions and job interviews, but quickly finds out that those advertised entertainment jobs are all just scams and misrepresentations.

On her way back to the Roosevelt hotel, she happens by a Burlesque club on the Sunset strip, and is intrigued enough by the dancers she saw relaxing outside the club, to spend $20. bucks to go inside and check it out.

Inside the club, which is owned by Cher, she is introduced to the possibilities of performing on stage as a “Burlesque” dancer. The dancers at Cher’s club perform some of the most enticing teasing , alluring bump and grind moves on stage, while lip synching to classic hits, by the likes of Ann-Margret and other such entertainment luminaries.

Cher’s character, Tess, is obviously influenced by the director, Steve Antin‘s sister, the incredible Robin Antin, who is the creator and choreographer of the Burlesque/singing group the “Pussycat Dolls”.In fact, the whole premise of this movie seems to include some characters and history that may have been loosely based on the ‘Pussycat Dolls” successful run for many years at a club on the Sunset strip in the mid-90’s.(Bio)

Tess is a partner in the club along with her former husband, who is portrayed by Peter Gallagher, we discover that the couple is facing mounting debts associated with running the club, and there is a looming threat of a foreclosure, if Tess does not come up with a large amount of money to satisfy her creditors…or they will be shut down!

This could be a terrible fate for all the pretty girls, musicians and good-looking staff at the burlesque club, that boast to have the best view on the Sunset strip!

Eric Dane, who portrays a wealthy, handsome, real estate developer offers to pay off all of Tess’s debt’s and then some, only if she will sell out all of her shares in the club to him and allow him to run the club as he see’s fit.He claims to have big plans to expand the club, and the financial resources to make it happen.

His offer is a take it or leave it proposition, that Tess has to seriously consider. Her ex-husband is excited to take the deal, but Tess’s love for her club and her whole staff, prevents her from taking the deal.

True to form, most real estate developers portrayed in the movies, always eventually are revealed to have another secret hidden agenda up their sleeve, and in this movie, it is no different….he actually wants to purchase the club to tear it down, and replace it with a shiny new high-rise office complex, and entertainment center, much like what you see being erected in Hollywood currently.

He must be stopped!

That is the main conflict in the story, but as we are taken along this adventure through the eyes of Ali, we get to follow her fighting for recognition, as she forces herself into an audition for Cher, as they are in need of a new dancer for the show, because one of the principle girls, portrayed by a fetching Julianne Hough from “Dancing With The Stars” comes up pregnant.

By this time Ali has worked her way in to a waitressing gig at the club, by flirting with a bartender, who she originally assumes to be gay, Jack, portrayed by Cam Gigandet, who encourages her to seek an audition from Tess, which she does, and in turn, wins a part in the show.

There is an interesting subplot that follows a growing relationship between Ali and struggling musician/writer Jack, who, due to Ali being robbed at the Roosevelt Hotel, move in together at Jack’s one bedroom apartment in Hollywood, that he is sharing with his fiance, who we find out lives in New York while she is performing in a play on Broadway.

Christina and Cam Gigandet, have a connection that is felt throughout the audience, and their romance is fun to watch as it ebbs and flows. You figure out that there is a good possibility that they will hook-up past the ‘friend-zone’, but the obstacles that the two must overcome, like Jack’s fiance returning one day ,and the fact that Ali thought he was gay to begin with, is just fun to watch.

Ali and Jack have some humorous and explosive love scenes...great chemistry!

Their chemistry together is undeniable!!!

I think most people will be able to relate to their story, as many people may have gone through something similar in their lives, sans the Hollywood part!

…anyhow, it’s good to see two good-looking people finally get together!

To see how it all works out, you will have to take my recommendation and go to see this movie…you will not be disappointed. In fact, we all get to learn about “air-rights” and I know that many who view this movie will probably rush home to find out if they can benefit financially from these ‘air-rights’, because I know I did.

I like movies that are not only fun to watch, but are also educational…

This is a tour de force film with incredible performances by Cher, Christina Aguilera, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, and Cam Gigandet that are relatable to the general public, and they simply jump off the screen.

I loved this movie, and it is what I call %100 pure entertainment!

The only thing in this movie that did not work very well was the fact that I never bought into Christina’s portrayal of an Iowa farm girl, because we all know Christina Aguilera to be a larger than life star who looks more like she came right off the beaches of Miami, more so than any farm in the heartland…but that’s really no big deal.

The audience I saw the movie with, laughed a little when we realized that she was supposed to be a little farm girl from Iowa,…because she is so not a little farm girl from Iowa, no matter what they do to try to convince us.

Christina Aguilera is not your typical looking Iowa farm girl in this new movie....

Christina is gorgeous in this movie, as she always is,…and she does it all!

She sings, dances, and  performs a great striptease fan-dance number that is an homage to the late stripping/burlesque pioneer, Gypsy Rose Lee.(Video)

…it is a number that would make Sally Rand proud!!!(Video)

Other than that, if you like the movies “Chicago”,“Moulin Rouge”,“Rent” and “Fame”, mixed in with a little bit of the bump and grind of “Showgirls”, then you will love this movie.

It definitely has a lot of the reality about how and why so many young men and women come to Hollywood, year in and year out, seeking their fame and fortune, and I am certain that this movie will encourage more of them to take that leap of faith and shoot for the stars!

It also highlights the fun atmosphere, and how easy it is to make some fast friends out here in the world of Hollywood, which should demystify it for many…I hope they all come out here!

‘Burlesque’ is rated PG-13 for sexual content including several suggestive dance routines, partial nudity, language and some thematic material, which is a good reason to go see it, it’s not a little kids movie.

It runs for 100 minutes, and is a production of Screen Gems , an American subsidiary company of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group.

It will be released to tease the public starting on November 24,…so mark your calendars!

  1. […] She was at the ‘Burlesque’ premiere in support of her client, award-winning composer Diane Warren who composed a song for the movies soundtrack. In fact,Chasen and Warren had been interviewed by the media about the music in the film. […]

  2. Christina did NOT do her own dancing in this movie. She had a stand in named Katrina Norman who did 90% of all her dances
