It’s About Time!!!Harlem Getting 1st Major Hotel Since 1967

Now, those of you that plan to travel to New York for a vacation, have the option to stay at a new luxury boutique hotel in Harlem,where there has not been a major hotel there since the famed Theresa hotel closed in 1967.(WIKI)

 

The Historic Hotel Theresa (now the Theresa Towers) closed in 1967.

 

It is a trendy Starwood boutique hotel called Aloft, and is scheduled to open Oct. 21,2010.(Aloft Hotel website)

It has 124 guest rooms, retail space as well as some condos for sale. Rooms will start at $299 per night.

“Instead of just going up to visit Harlem, you can stay in Harlem,” said George Fertitta, head of NYC & Company, the city’s tourism and marketing agency, who went on to say that the recession has caused a number of hotel developments that were scheduled for Harlem, to be delayed, or abandoned.

City officials and borough residents predict that it will increase the already wide appeal of Harlem, to the millions of visitors that come to tour the borough every year.
