Robin Roberts Dies!?!?….Sports Hero Mourned…

I was as surprised as many were today to wake up to the confusing, yet horrible news and reports on the death of sports star Robin Roberts!@!

I saw a headline on T.V.,…rushed to verify the news on the internet,…confirmed the new by reading this report on-line (ROBIN ROBERTS DIES)…

…fell down crying!!!!, and then,

…while watching ESPN, they reported the truth…

…Robin Roberts did in fact die!!!,..but it was not the Robin Robert’s, from A.B.C.’s “Good Morning America”, whom I thought had passed [picapp align=”right” wrap=”true” link=”term=robin+roberts+baseball&iid=8719770″ src=”f/b/9/c/Hall_of_Fame_c88a.JPG?adImageId=12793464&imageId=8719770″ width=”380″ height=”279″ /]away,but ,Hall of Fame pitcher and “Whiz Kid” Robin Roberts, who led the 1950 Philadelphia Phillies to the National League pennant ,died on May 6 at his home in Florida.(SOURCE)

His cause of death was not released,but he was 83,and had lived a fruitful, and significant life.

In his 19-season career, Roberts compiled a 286–245 record with 2,357 strikeouts, a 3.41 ERA, 305 complete games, 45 shutouts, and 4,688⅔ innings pitched in 676 games. He holds the Major League records for home runs allowed by a pitcher (505) and for most consecutive Opening Day starts for the same team with 12, between 1950 and 1961.

Roberts’ record for home runs allowed can largely be attributed to his durability and his tendency to pitch inside the strike zone. Roberts threw 4688 innings over the course of his 19-year career, good for 21st on the all-time innings pitched list. Moreover, Roberts challenged hitters to put the ball in play, issuing relatively few walks (1.7 per 9 innings pitched) and strikeouts (4.5 per 9 innings pitched).(WIKI)
