Venezuelan Boxer And Suspected Wife Killer And Abuser Edwin Velero Commits Suicide in Jail

Edwin Valero,28, the former World Boxing Council lightweight champion, hanged himself with his own clothes in a jail cell in Caracas on Monday,where he was being detained since Sunday on suspicion of murdering his wife Jennifer, 24, after police found her body in a hotel room in Valencia, Venezuela.(SOURCE)

Valero left the hotel room around dawn on Sunday and allegedly told security that he had killed his wife,Jennifer Viera. According to police, an inmate in an adjacent cell heard noises and alerted police who found Valero hanging. Valero initially still had vital signs but subsequently passed away.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

Edwin Valero was a habitual wife beater. USA TODAY is reporting that…Valero’s wife had been admitted to a hospital bruises and a broken rib that penetrated her lung. The same hospital had treated her twice before for similar injuries, which she claimed were from falling down stairs.

Doctors told reporters Valero was hostile when he came to the emergency room and threatened staff members. “He was arrested for threats, resistance and hostile behavior against doctors, police officials and nurses,” said hospital spokesman Danilo Araque. At his sentencing, Valero admitted he was an alcoholic.(SOURCE)

It is a tragedy what happened to Jennifer Velero, and I am frustrated that no one was able to see the pattern of abuse she was going through,which ultimately ended in her death.
