‘Charles The Cat’ Travels 1,300 Miles From NM to Chicago
The AP is reporting that a cat from New Mexico has turned up in Chicago after wandering 1,300 miles from his Albuquerque home. Charles the Cat was picked up by Chicago Animal Care and Control but his life was spared when staff found a microchip and contacted his owner.
Robin Alex, the owner of Charles, was overjoyed to hear that Charles had been found, but said she could not afford a round-trip flight to Chicago to rescue her straying pet. She feared he might be euthanized.
Charles vanished about eight months ago from his New Mexico home when she was away volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Albuquerque resident Lucien Sims, who was attending a wedding in Chicago, offered to help out by picking up the cat and making sure Charles catches his flight home, and American Airlines stepped up and provided Charles a free ride back to Albuquerque!!!(SOURCE)
Charles is en route home, so this story has a happy ending. I commend all who pitched in to help this pet and owner, and should serve as an example of how strangers can come together to assist each other in their time of need, all in an effort to make sure a cat,Charles,is returned safely to his hometown.
