All commercial film/video or photo shoot projects must be permitted through the City of Dallas Office of Special Events / Film Coordinators. The production company that produced this video never contacted the City to seek the proper permits. This is known as “guerilla filming” where production companies circumvent the proper permitting procedures and usually shoot these scenes in one take knowing that if they are discovered they would face arrest and/or penalties…(SOURCE)
The fine for her misdemeanor is $4000.00 and up to one year in jail,due to the indecent exposure charge because she was nude in public.
HipHopWired.com is reporting that if any one of the witnesses in the video come forward to issue a complaint about Erykah’s public nudity displayed during the filming of the video, then they would proceed with the charges of indecent exposure.(SOURCE)
I don’t see anything wrong with the nudity in the video….but, I also teach Life Drawing courses, so I am used to it.I hope to see more public nudity,but I also recognize that I am not the “norm”….which means I am not a good measure for setting public decency standards here in America, because it is pretty conservative and harsh when it comes to making logical sense ,at all, as to why we trip -out so much when we see a nipple or exposed vagina in public!?@?!
I guess it’s a time and place type of thing?
Don’t get me wrong,I understand the arguments against public displays of nudity….they just make no sense to me, but I am forced to deal with it.I just see our society going backwards when it comes to the issues of nudity, and it’s just unhealthy.

The police are fining people who choose to go nude at the traditionally nude San Onofre State beach!!!!…they already took away Black’s Beach years ago!!!
What Erykah did is just test the edge of our society’s tolerance for evolutionary thinking about socially accepted ideas and I applaud her artistry!!!

The human body is beautiful and our sick society needs to get over it.
….I do have an issue with the children in the video though, to be honest,because it looks like it might expose her to a lawsuit of some sort from some of the families in the video. That was a miscalculation.
No matter what you think about public nudity, freedom of expression, or art,…the lawyers are going to have a field day here so I hope Erykah’s management has some good strategy to keep the inevitable onslaught at bay, or this could cost her millions.
This is why I am going to run out and buy this album by the beautiful, talented, and provocative Erykah Badu!!!!

i love her and i love the message behind it. it wasn’t public nudity for the sake of public nudity. as a whole, humankind is quite poetic, so let’s look beyond the obvious to get the message. we can see, yet we’re so blind.
