Sammy Sosa Not Turning White From Vitilago…Just a ‘Skin Rejuvination’ process, that’s all.

Baseball fans worldwide were shocked and confused by Sammy Sosa’s recent ghostly appearance in Las Vegas this past week, and speculations have been flying about the probable cause of a very dark man turning white.

First of all, is it possible to turn black skin white, and secondly, why on earth would you want to do it?

I posted this article on my blog Saturday concerning Sammy’s recent change…
https://jerrybrice.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/sammy-sosas-skin-is-turning-white-is-this-a-side-effect-of-steroid-useor-is-it-purely-cosmetic/

…and I speculated that it may be an unknown side effect of the steroids he had been taking during his baseball career.

Who knows….

Today, a source in the Cubs organization that is close to Sammy reports the following to the website Fanhouse.comIt turns out Sosa has just been undergoing a “rejuvenation process,” according to Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who speaks frequently with the baseball legend.

“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” Polihronis told the Chicago Tribune. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.
“He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’ “

That clears things up, and I for one will stop all the speculation.

Apparently, what she is saying is that if you were to see him in person, it would not be as shocking as it seems to be in the pictures posted on-line.

Some of the side effects of laser rejuvenation treatments is a discoloration of the skin, which is a good reason not to do it.

One of my readers on Facebook will be disapointed. She was convinced it was a medical condition such as Vitilago, and made the following statement…

…”How does one bleach ones skin all over so evenly? if that were truly possible, trust me, ALL of the self hating negroes would be on that [product]. Gimme a break”….

Sorry to break it to her, but the reality of it is that Sammy is bleaching his skin.

In my 45 years of experience being a black man, I have never seen nor heard of this ‘side effect’ occurring, unless someone elects to apply to their skin some very strong and dangerous chemicals.
Skin pigment is not paint or a tattoo. It does not come off that easily, or naturally, and if you do remove your pigment, it is not all that healthy.

Self hatred or self-improvement is a matter of semantics.I believe it is a form of self destruction. If you change your pigment, it is not going to change the fact that you are a descendent of African kings, and why would you want to hide that.

The blacker the better I say, but most of all, love what you are, not what you wish you were. Seek some counseling about why you want to bleach your skin, and you will see that it is something more profound than loosing your strong colorization.

It is all in your mind.

Sosa reportedly sought the dermatological process in order to repair some of the UV damage from playing so many years of baseball in the sun.
Far be it for me to call him a liar, but let’s just say I do not buy this excuse. He has the right to do whatever he wants, he made his own money, so he can waste it however he see’s fit.

Sammy is getting ready to pass the one test he had been failing, and that my friends, is the age-old ‘Brown Bag’ test.

One test that is worth failing, for the good of our people.

Here is a video from the Digital Underground ‘No Nose Job’ which has lyrics that reflect my personal feelings about these types of cosmetic decisions for some African-Americans and our brothers worldwide…
