Rihanna Opens up on the Chris Brown Beat Down today on Good Morning America

This morning in an interview with Diane Sawyer , pop star and fashion icon Rhianna opened up about her experiences after her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown beat her up unmercilessly.

“That’s embarrassing that that’s the type of person that I fell in love with,” Rihanna said on Good Morning America. “So far in love. So unconditional that I went back. It’s humiliating to say this happened…” warning other women facing domestic violence to not let themselves become blinded by love.

ABC will air more chunks of the interview on Friday’s “Good Morning America” and then Friday evening on the news magazine “20/20.” Brown also will recount his perspective in an interview to air Friday on MTV.

Rhianna is speaking out in an effort to help other young women who may be trapped in a violent relationship. Many women are victims of domestic violence.

In the interview Diane Sawyer pointed out that , on an average, a woman will take a beating seven times before leaving. The 21-year-old star’s chilling response: “Eight or nine, actually.”

Hmmmm, sounds like she is speaking from experience, which would be chilling, given that Chris Brown  has gone on record to say that he did not have any conscience recollection of what transpired while beating Rhianna that evening.

Is is possible that he ”blacked-out” so often, as to not realize that he is a serial abuser?

Remember what we are talking about...

Remember what we are talking about...

If that is the case, and with the severity on the injuries he inflicted on Rhianna, I think that he may need to be screened for a brain tumor, or something. It sounds like he is not in control of his actions,…or he is a liar.

The bruises on Rhianna were real, and his actions were deplorable.I don’t think his celebrity will make him impregnable to any form retaliation from the men in her family, and I frankly do not think that they or any of us should care if he happens to be famous or not. Sounds like to me,he needs an extreme wake up call of some sort.

Speaking out was difficult for Rihanna, however, “There are a lot of women who’ve experienced what I did, but not in the public. So it made it really difficult. I just felt like, ‘Oh my God, here it goes, my little bit of privacy.”

In Thursday’s interview, Rihanna said, “I am strong. This happened to me. I didn’t cause this. I didn’t do it. This can happen to me and it can happen to anybody.”

Rihanna’s interview coincides with the debut of her new single, “Russian Roulette,” from her upcoming album, “Rated R.” It’s her first CD since 2007’s multiplatinum “Good Girl Gone Bad.” The timing is perfect for her to come out and to speak about all of this. With the release of her new album, the media’s attention will be focused on several aspects of her life,as it should.

Those that follow my blog already understand that I support Rhianna, and for full disclosure, I am a fan.If she were my daughter,my reactions would not have been very positive, so I commend her for her professionalism, and I have no problem with the way she has handled such an extreme circumstance.

This is a lot for any woman of any age to have to deal with in such a public way.

It does not mean I am hating on Chris Brown, but I just have no respect for any of his actions. I hope there is a possibility for him to redeem himself, and I would like that to happen for him, but the…”I was in shock and do not remember what happened”… excuse is cowardly, and his friends and family need to be the one’s to tell him so. At this point, he is pretty much a failure as a man, and is an embarrassment to his family.

Maybe all that fame went to his head.

Here is a clip of the interview, and I encourage all the young women of the world to share this clip with each other, and most of all, love yourself. No one should ever put their hands on you, period.

  1. I am so tired of everyone thinking Rihanna is the victim. I have lost all respect for her. If she was honest about the role she played, how she provoked him, how she hit him with objects, etc … she would have a more powerful message to battered women. In no way do I condone a man hitting a woman, but I don’t condone a woman hitting a man – especially with objects! She has openly admitted she is violent and thought it was funny when she said it. I believe she thinks it is acceptible behavior for a woman to act like this – when really it isn’t. Every time Rihanna goes on a talk show and plays the victim, I feel more and more sad for Chris and the other men she has [emotionally and physically] abused. I wish she would be a woman and admit her wrong doing in the situation.

    • What men need to realize is that a man never hits a women for any reason at all.
When she does hit you, you need to immediatly call the police on her after you leave. That’s it,period.
That will work in all 50 states.
Now, if you retaliate, then you have just made youself, the man a felon, and need to be imprisoned.
Rhianna is a victim of this kid, no matter what she did, and I will even go as far as to say that he
      probably enjoyed it.
So, she is a victim of a little sissified hollywood r and b singer.Try doing that and not be Chris Brown.I know plenty of honies who will throw acid in his face, or feed him crushed glass mixed in his food for even thinking about hitting them.
No man is a man if he is crying over some emotional abuse from a woman.Who says that…
His male ancestors are embarrased for him, and he will walk around all of eternity as a little weak
minded prick.A reputation he so well deserves.

      • I kind of agree with you. But it is evident from your response that you’ve never been in this type of relationship nor do you know anyone – personally – who has been marred by the ‘uncontrollable’, abusive woman. Which is kudos to you for being a better judge of charactor and circumstance.

All I am merely saying is that each person should be held accountible for their actions in the events that took place. PERIOD. I never said I condoned Chris’ behavior, but Rihanna is no angel.

We can go round and round about this – each side sharing valid points. At the end of the day it all goes back to what we were taught in grade school – “treat others the way you want to be treated”.

Furthermore, what type of people do you associate with that would pour acid in another person’s face? What happened to walking away? You see, this is the irresponsibility I am talking about. When are we going to be responsible for our actions? Real Talk, there isn’t a fight I haven’t been in where I didn’t take my punishment too. I had to be accountible for my actions.

      • I have experience in these very issues, that why I speak on them, just to clear that up.
The acid throwing incident happened, and I associate with people that will love you, and some that
would not hesitate to end your life.At this age,I know all types of people,my point is that the girl who
used the acid was a church girl, so you should never assume that a person’s level of anger and retaliation is
limited to what you or I might decide to personally do.
That’s the mistake a lot of folks in the cemetary have made.

I teach my son and my little cousins this..if you decide to fight, be prepared to kill that person, or, just walk away from the fight…

Now, I have told the world in this response, and it has worked for me.

The woman should feel bad about throwing things etc…but the law will prosecute a man for this, so…make
an informed decision, but keep your hands off of each other.
My advice is based on the law, not emotions, just to be clear.
The acid thrower was prosecuted, and did a little time, and got out, got married, and went on with her life.
Acid face is disfigured forever over hitting a women he should not have.
The type of person she is you ask, she is a human being…

Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate a different point of view, it is very helpful…

  2. I was not there of the night of the incident, but I wish Chris would of just kept his cool and dropped her off at a bus stop and went on with his business. I wish he didnt make that Gay ass apology video, because he doesn’t owe the world an apology. It would be nice if he apologizes to Rihanna, if he hadn’t did it yet. Just move on with his life and find another sexy women( i don’t if she gone top rhianna). Chris, I know you cant carry a weapon, but if I was you, I would still get me some heat. I wish Rhianna would stop playing the victim, because she probably started the fight. She needs to move on with her life. I hope that her and Chris can be friends one day. This is my message to young women out there, if a man puts his hands on you for the first time, give him a warning, try to be there for him and help that man out to your best, but if it happens again leave him the fuck alone for good. Young Men, if a woman gets you to that point when u wanna beat tha shit out of her for any reason; get help/ counseling and if that doesn’t work; leave her the fuck alone. Because hitting a woman isnt worth it and its wrong.( even though some of them deserve it) Think before you react.
