Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson would like all of us to know how much of an unapologetic idiot he is.
The Kansas City Star is reporting that Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, less than 24 hours after taking on coach Todd Haley on his Twitter profile, maintained an edge Monday when approached by reporters in the team’s locker room.
The star running back has belittled his rookie head coach on what appears to be his Twitter account, saying Todd Haley has “nuthn” when it comes to NFL-quality credentials.
The remarks were posted several hours after the Chiefs (1-6) were routed at home 37-7 by San Diego on Sunday.
One tweet read: “My father got more credentials than most of these pro coaches.” That is followed by: “My father played for the coach from “remember the titans”. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefly. Our coach. Nuthn.”
On Monday,in the Chiefs locker room, Johnson used a gay slur after saying he wouldn’t speak to reporters.
Johnson, sitting next to second-year running back Jamaal Charles, told reporters that “I’m not talking till Thursday,” his usual day of speaking with reporters. Then Johnson turned away and whispered.
“Get your faggot ass out of here,” he said.
Last night, when Johnson got into a Twitter spat with a fan, he called the fan a “fag,”from reports posted by those who were following his tweets.
“think bout a clever diss then that wit ur fag pic. Christopher street boy. Is what us east coast cats call u.”
“Christopher street boy” is an obvious reference to gays for the Christopher Street gay pride parade in New York. The fan made mention of Johnson pleading guilty after allegedly spitting in the face of a female bar patron.
Johnson went off on Twitter, and changed his once public profile, into a private account after the Chiefs (1-6) lost to San Diego, 37-7.
Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said Johnson’s tweets were his own but said the running back intended to complement his father — Larry Johnson Sr. is the defensive line coach at Penn State — and not disparage Haley.
Haley did not play high school or college football. He attended college on a golf scholarship. He was hired by first-year general manager Scott Pioli to replace the fired Herm Edwards.
Johnson has had four arrests for various degrees of battery since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2003.
Johnson had expressed frustration earlier Sunday, shortly after the Chiefs’ loss at Arrowhead Stadium.
“This is what this organization has been doing since I’ve been here,” Johnson said. “This is my third head coach in seven years I’ve been here. It seems like this is what we keep doing: going back to the drawing board. We bring in new coaches, new organization, new schemes, new mentality, new attitude.”
The Chiefs are 1-6 and have a bye this weekend.
The Chiefs won an arbitration agreement this summer against Johnson after his case for spitting in the young woman’s face at a club, which gives them the right to cut Johnson for behavioral reasons if he should find himself getting arrested again for assaulting someone.
The NFL (if not the Chiefs) must fine and suspend Larry Johnson or else it condones the use of such language by its players.
There has been no official statement from the NFL about this case at press time, but I would bet that they will have one, and it may be harsh. Isaiah Thomas, from ABC’s ”Grey’s Anatomy” famously lost his job and livelihood when he made a similar slur in public at the Emmy awards, when referring to his altercation with fellow actor T.R. Knight.
Running behind a poor offensive line, Johnson has not done well this season, averaging only 2.7 yards per carry on 132 yards, and it looks as if he could be on his way out of Kansas city.
This latest foolishness may make him an unwelcome addition to any team in the National Football League. Who would have thought that a beat down from the San Diego Chargers could make him go all homophobic on his fans.

Went to the game in KC yesterday. Never going back, especially now, after Larry Johnson’s remarks.
