Grizzly Bear Makes Beer Run In To Wis. Store, Patrons Run For Their Lives

A grocery store in Hayward, Wisconsin had to be evacuated Friday when a 125 pound black bear decided to do a little shopping in the liquor department.

The bear stopped Friday night at Marketplace Foods in Hayward, about 140 miles northeast of Minneapolis, sauntering through the automatic doors and heading straight for the liquor department.

The bear calmly climbed up 12 feet onto a shelf in the beer cooler where it sat for about an hour while employees helped evacuate customers and summoned wildlife officials.

Officials from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources tranquillised the animal and removed it.

Store workers said the bear seemed content in the cooler – and did not consume any alcohol.

The store manager says absolutely nothing was damaged or broken in the store. The only sign of the bear after he left, was a nose print on a glass door.

I want to know what brand of beer he was going for, imported or domestic.

  1. Nice lack of accuracy. Grizzley bear in the title and Black Bear in the beer cooler. A Grizzley Bear in Wisconsin would be a real story. A Black Bear in Wisconsin story is sort of like a political corruption story in Illinois. Sort of a yawn generator.

    • Hey Ken…duly noted…you are definetly a Bear expert…
I wonder what the natives called the bears, because that is
the only name that matters to me really. In Cali, unless you are a
vet or zoologist, a bear is bear ia bear…lol
Point of the story is that a bear made a beer run, and frightened some people…
but, for sake of argument , you are correct…congratultions…thanks.
