The LAPD is searching for the teen mother of a 3-year-old that she abandoned while the child was sleeping at a public bus stop. A homeless citizen found the child, and took him to the police department.

October 9th 2009, at 12:40 a.m., a 3-year-old old boy was found at a public bus stop at the corner of Florence and Broadway Avenues. 

 A local resident told LAPD 77th Area officers that he observed the child sleeping on a bus bench next to an adult woman.  When the bus arrived, the woman got onto the bus and left the child behind. The citizen yelled to the woman to tell her that she forgot about the child but she waived him off.  The citizen stayed with the child for about one hour hoping the female would return, but no one came back to the bus stop to claim him.  The citizen went to the LAPD 77th Area Police Station where he provided details of the incident to officers. 

 The child was then taken into police custody and released to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

A Bakersfield woman stepped forward today to claim as her grandson a toddler abandoned on Friday, at a South Los Angeles bus stop. 

The woman told police that she recognized the boy as 3-year-old Xavier Nelson from telecasts of the widely covered story. The boy remains in the care of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services while police confirm the woman’s identity, according to LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera. 

Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led a parent or caregiver to leave the boy sleeping on a South Florence Avenue bus bench early Friday.. ..

Anyone with more information as to the whereabouts of the mother was urged to call police at (213) 485-6991 during normal office hours or at 1-877-LAPD-24-7 around the clock.

Let’s pray that this troubled young sister comes back , and that she receives all the counseling and rehabilitation she needs, so she can properly be reunited with her child, after she is mentally stable to do so.

Child Protection Services in L.A. is not where little Xavier should be.
