Reminiscent of the infamous mauling this summer by a pet celebrity chimp, comes news of the killing of a Pennsylvanian women who was partially eaten by her pet 350-pound bear. Here is a report from the Associated Press…

A woman whose husband is an exotic pet dealer was killed by a captive 350-pound black bear as she cleaned its cage Sunday night. The woman, Kelly Ann Walz, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene, in a rural area about 20 miles northeast of Allentown, said Tim Conway of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Ms. Walz went into the bear’s 15-foot-by-15-foot steel and concrete cage around 5 p.m., throwing a shovelful of dog food to one side to distract the bear while she cleaned the other side, Mr. Conway said. At some point the bear turned on her and attacked. Her children and the neighbor’s children summoned help, and a neighbor shot and killed the bear, Mr. Conway said….

Walz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials said Walz’s husband, Michael Walz, had permits to keep and sell exotic animals. The bear wasn’t the only unusual animal living on the property, an official with the State Game Commission reported. The homeowner had a permit to keep a Bengal tiger and an African lion, and the property routinely passed inspection and had no violations, he said.

An investigation continues, but the lesson from these last two exotic animals that killed their long term owners or associate, probably means that…wild animals that prey on humans in the wild for food, are not now, nor will they ever be pets. There will always be one ”Nat Turner-like” exotic pet, that will kill their masters, and die, than continue to accept slavery, or captivity.
